Dutch Portrait of Johann Huyn van Amstenraedt and Family, circa 1650

'Portrait of Johann Huyn Van Amstenraedt with His Wife Philippine (Née. Van Aefferden) and Family'; an impressive oil on canvas by Wallerant Vaillant (1623–1677), a Dutch Golden Age artist known for painting courtly family portraits. Other examples of his work can be found in the National Portrait Gallery, the Victoria & Albert Museum and the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York.

This painting balances impressive scale and proportion with exquisite detail; the intricate lace of the sitters' collars and the child's bunch of grapes are both delicate and precise. To the reverse of the painting, the canvas stretcher bears a label from 1910 when the work was restored by the painter Pierre Jean van de Laar (1871–1943) in Roermond.

Up until now, the painting has been passed down through the van Aefferden family, as property of the descendants.
