George I 'Mulberry' Bureau Bookcase, in the manner of Coxed & Woster, circa 1710

A truly magnificent George I bureau bookcase in the manner of G. Coxed and T. Woster, cabinetmakers trading at ‘The White Swan’ in St. Paul’s Churchyard from 1690 to 1736. The 'mulberry' burr and curly veneers stained with lampblack to resemble tortoiseshell and produce this wonderfully rich tone.

The bevelled mirrored doors with shaped brass hinges opening to reveal an arrangement of alcoves and shelving. The base with a fall front over graduated drawers fitted with shaped and pierced brass handles, and raised on ebonised bun feet.
